I did some research and I spent hours upon hours looking for someone to take me out of my website misery but all I could find on the web were designers who charged a small fortune... enough for me to put a nice down payment on a car!

At the very end of 2006, I came across the thing that changed my entire website history... I came across WordPress - the Cadillac of blogging software.

The minute I came across it, I knew it had to be mine. I didn't know why, I didn't know how but I just knew it. It was sleek, it was functional and the best part of all... It was FREE.

So, you're probably sitting there wondering...

Aside From the Asthetics, What Is
So Great About a WordPress Site?

Well, let me tell you...

(1) It Helps Increase Traffic

Before I implemented my brand new, shiny site, I was getting a measly 850 unique visitors per month. That's it!

Regardless of the marketing efforts I put into place, I could never get above 1,000 unique visitors per month let alone receive GOOD traffic. That was, of course, until I set up and implemented the WordPress blog site.

You see, here is a screenshot taken from my actual control panel that shows you my stats BEFORE WordPress.

You can see the month and the year and the Unique Visitors count. I installed and setup my WordPress blog the following month, in January of 2007, and I was shocked at the first month's increase.

In ONE month, I increased my site visitors by almost 500 UNIQUE VISITORS! But... it gets even better. By February, my stats increased again...

I kid you not... These are REAL statistics pulled from my control panel. I had jumped 1,100 in ONE month. I had DOUBLED the amount of traffic the previous month and my traffic got BETTER. It was more defined. More targeted. This traffic was BUYING my products and services.

By March... well, check out these statistics...

Now, three years later... we rank in the top 150,000 websites in the ENTIRE world!

Each month my traffic continues to grow and these are UNIQUE VISITORS. Let me explain the difference between hits and visitors. My hits counter is now over 50,000 per month but here's why that information is not the information I chose to post.

A unique visitor is someone who visits for the very first time. Someone who is a BRAND NEW visitor to your site. This is the number I look at to see how my marketing efforts are playing out.

A hit is simply anyone who visits your site and they could visit multiple times. They could possibly even refresh the page and that too would be counted as a hit. NOT ACCURATE. A unique visitor IS accurate and that is why I chose to pull those specific statistics.

(2) It Works FOR You Instead of You Working For IT

In the months after implementing my brand new WordPress blog, I started to see REAL results... Here are just a few of the things I began to notice:

		People actually purchased my products!
		I had a TON of calls about my services and a TON of referrals from existing clients.
		I was asked to do an internet radio interview by a prestigious blogger and internet radio host
		I was invited to speak on two different teleseminars as a guest expert on the subjects of WordPress blogs and on delegation
		I began to have more 'industry clout' and became known as an expert in my field
		I was featured in three print books and in article in Chatelaine magazine, a National Canadian magazine
		I was asked to speak at four live conferences: FoVA, WordCamp Toronto, WordCamp Montreal and Wordcamp Chicago
		I was featured on ABC News, CTV News and chosen as Office Arrow's Runner-Up for Business Woman of the Year

 

And that's just the tip of the iceberg. It really did revolutionize my business and made me feel more confident about sending people to my website.

(3) It's a Search Engine's Dream Come True

Do you know how a search engine works? Do you understand how website content gets indexed to appear on places like Google, Yahoo, etc.?

Each search engine sends out something called a 'spider' which harvests information from websites. Generally, it only harvests information once until that info is either changed or updated. On a standard website, as you know, most information stays stagnant and unchanged.

On a blog site, each and every time you post a blog entry, you are sending a giant signal to every search engine and blog engine out there that you have just updated your blog. It's like the dinner bell for the 'spiders'... They know they have new information to harvest.

How does this help your website?

Well, for every time these 'spiders' have to return to your website, they'll add that info to Google thus increasing your page rank, increasing your place in the search engine findings and thus increasing the traffic sent to your website.

(4) It's an Excellent Content Management System

If you have ever tried to archive newsletters or articles on your website, you know how frustrating it is (or maybe your web designer is frustrated and you don't even know it) to store and archive all of that information.

More often than not, pages upon pages need to be created to serve this purpose which causes you to have a heavy load on your web server and a whole bunch of pages to remember to update.

With a blog, you can post your articles, e-zines, newsletters, regular blog posts, etc. without EVER having to worry about updating each individual page.

The beauty of this is that your content will stay on your website, being visited by search engines and still getting traffic for you without being lost in the wash of a giant site.

When you own a website, you want to be the NUMBER ONE place for people to come and search out the solutions to their problems. If someone comes to your site and doesn't know where to go and can't search the site, they become lost and frustrated and will more than likely leave.

Become the place people come to for information and stay. Become the mecca of your industry, niche or target market.

(5) It's So Easy to Update...
You Don't Need a Web Designer!

Seriously.

I taught my grandmother how to update her website. If she can do it, ANYONE can do it!

Think about this... Right now you may be spending anywhere from $75 - 150 per hour for a web designer (and possibly more!) Each and everytime you need a website designed, you are paying someone to go in and make small changes and those changes add up quickly.
